Revenue management and revenue recovery both affect hotel profitability, but they operate at different points in the revenue cycle.
Revenue management works before and during the sale
Revenue management focuses on demand, pricing, inventory, restrictions, channel strategy and business mix. Its job is to improve the economics of what the hotel sells.
Revenue recovery works after the economic event
Recovery asks whether the financial result matched what should have happened. Was the OTA payable fully collected? Was commission based on the correct final stay? Did the processor bill according to verified terms? Was a vendor obligation paid twice?
A hotel needs both disciplines
Excellent pricing cannot recover a virtual-card balance nobody charged. Strong occupancy does not correct a duplicate vendor payment. Each discipline protects a different part of hotel profitability.
